Krejci on The Krejci Factor

Before last night’s game, I wrote about The Krejci Factor,  which seems to break any slumping winger out of the doldrums and put him back on the right track offensively.

Well, after another Bruins victory Saturday night, a 4-1 dumping of the defending champion Detroit Red Wings, I explained to Bruins center David Krejci the impact he’s had on the likes of Marco Sturm and Michael Ryder. He had a couple of ideas why things seem to work out when someone gets placed to his side, although he was quick to deflect any credit away from him.

“You have in the season some ups and downs. It looks like the last few games I’m up,” said Krejci, who after his one-goal, one-assist performance vs. Detroit now has 4-6-10 totals during his six-game points streak. “I don’t know what it is, how come those guys start scoring when they’re on my line. Maybe in their head they’re like, ‘Oh my God, he just moved me to another line, I’ve got to do something.’ So he might work a little harder, shoot a little more and I got those two guys … they’re all scorers, they can pretty much score from anywhere. So I just try to give them the puck.”

One constant for the better part of the last month or so has been Blake Wheeler. The rookie has played both left wing and right wing depending on who’s rounding out the line, but he’s forged plenty of chemistry with Krejci.

“I know what to expect from him. I feel more comfortable on the ice every shift that I’m out there every game,” Krejci said. “I know more and more what to expect from him and sometimes … he’s a great player, but sometimes he surprises me with his really great moves. That kid’s got really good skills. I’m really glad that I’ve got him on my line.”

In his second NHL season, Krejci is living up to the potential he built up in junior and with Providence of the AHL. But he’s staying grounded and figuring his ceiling is still much higher than the heights he’s climbed so far.

“(Saturday)I produced but I know I can have better games. (Friday) I produced too, I think I had a couple good periods, but I need to have all 60 minutes. I still have some gaps I have to fill up.”
