Guess how Boston Bruins winger P.J. Axelsson decided to attempt the shootout move he’s now used twice during the post-overtime spectacle (where he’s 1-for-2) and once on a penalty shot (the failed attempt he executed Monday night).
Well, it turns out Axelsson was convinced to swing way out wide to the right and then attack the net from an odd angle by none other than Bruins goaltending coach Bob Essensa.
“It gets the goalie moving,” said Axelsson today, noting that Essensa would know a thing or two about goaltender weaknesses as a former netminder.
“He’s seen it somewhere,” the Swede added.
If given the chance, would Axelsson attempt the move again? The veteran said it’ll depend on the situation.
