Bruin of the Week

He’s by far the hottest offensive player in the NHL right now, so it stands to reason that he’s also the hottest skater in black and gold.

Last week, Phil Kessel posted 3-5-8 offensive totals and a plus-2 rating in the Bruins’ four games (three wins and one loss). For his efforts, Kessel is the Bruin of the Week.

Kessel enters this week with a 15-game point-scoring streak, the longest in the NHL this season. That streak is the longest since Adam Oates registered a point in 20 straight in 1997. And although the Christmas break could postpone his efforts, Kessel is within reach of the Bruins’ all-time record of 22 straight games with at least one points set by Bronco Horvath during the 1959-60 season.

Other candidates for this honor were defenseman Dennis Wideman (1-3-4, even rating) and center David Krejci (0-6-6, even rating).
