For the second straight game, a Boston Bruins player not known for fighting held his own last night in the 3-1 win over Montreal at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston.
After an invitation at the red line from Canadiens rookie Kyle Chipchura, Bruins defenseman Mark Stuart obliged and proceeded to prevail on points in a spirited bout. The fight came on the heels of Bruins teammate Matt Hunwick’s brief but explosive bout with Carolina’s Jason Williams Saturday (Hunwick, in his first career NHL fight, leveled Williams with a right hook).
The Bruins’ prime pugilist Shawn Thornton is more than happy to share the fist-throwing in order to make the current Bruins team the best it can be.
“It’s got to be, for a team to be successful, I think it’s got to be everything by committee, that stuff included,” Thornton said after the Montreal game. “So it’s definitely part of my job, but other guys here aren’t afraid to do it.”
