The St. Louis Blues will take the ice at TD Banknorth Garden for a matinee with the Boston Bruins Monday with the least number of points in the Western Conference standings and a list of injured regulars longer than that of the Bruins.

But that doesn’t mean they won’t give the Bruins a battle, nor does it mean that they don’t have some good stories. One of the more intriguing players in the Blues’ line-up right now is forward Trent Whitfield, as Dan O’Neill writes in today’s Post-Dispatch. Whitfield is 31 and he’s played in less than 200 NHL games. But he had an assist earlier this week and has been receiving increased playing time of late.

O’Neill also has the game story from the Blues’ overtime home loss to Chicago Saturday, which he writes had the feel of an old-time clash between the division rivals.
