The Boston Bruins will probably have to solve one of the NHL season’s toughest riddles when they host the New Jersey Devils at TD Banknorth Garden tomorrow — how did Devils goaltender Scott Clemmensen suddenly get so good and how do you stop him now?
The 31-year-old Clemmensen, a former Boston College standout, earned his 20th win of the season last night in a 4-1 road win over Ottawa, as reported by Mark Everson in the New York Post. This is a guy whose previous career-high for wins was three. But with Martin Brodeur out for an extended time with injury, Clemmensen has filled the void and then some. This guy’s an unrestricted free agent this summer, and he should finally be able to get himself a more respectable, one-way NHL deal after July 1.
Everson also has a story on former Selke winner John Madden changing his game to stay in the Devils’ line-up.
