In going through the Philadelphia papers looking for Flyers stories this morning, I overlooked the best story of all coming out of the City of Brotherly Love.
Anthony SanFilippo of the Daily Times takes a gander at the Flyers’ goaltending situations, which includes the pair of Martin Biron and Antero Niittymaki. SanFilippo writes: “The issue: The team’s brass needs to determine over the next three weeks which goalie it wants to count on down the stretch – Biron, Niittymaki, or someone else?”
Factoring in the decision is Biron’s status as an unrestricted free agent this summer. Near the end of the story, SanFilippo even suggests the Flyers could pursue a deal for superstar defenseman Chris Pronger, who’s reportedly available for the team that makes the right offer to Anaheim.
MK: Now wouldn’t that be something, if the Flyers could get a third team involved and add Pronger by moving Biron. That would make life more difficult for the Bruins in the East. More than any of the recent tests they’ve faced, I’m intrigued by howBruins match up with the Flyers — if for no other reason than the bad blood that formed last year and, remember, the Flyers were conference finalists last season.
