The Bay Area papers really treat the NHL like a redheaded stepchild. Even with the San Jose Sharks atop the Western Conference and battling the Boston Bruins for the top spot in the entire league, the coverage in the papers from Northern California is scarce and inconsistent.
Today’s Bay Area papers actually contain no Sharks stories, even with the Sharks huge visit to Boston on tap for tomorrow night. Normally on the day before a game I’d relay what the upcoming Bruins opponents’ local papers are writing about. But today, nada. I’d venture a guess that the media North of the Border is more pumped for this one than the writers and TV people in NoCal.
Anyway, here in Boston we don’t need anymore reasons to get psyched for the Bruins-Sharks match-up. But here’s something to get Bruins fans’ blood boiling — a Q&A Alison High of sanjosesharks.com did with longtime Boston nemesis Claude Lemieux, who’s made a successful return to the NHL at the age of 43. The over/under on the number of times Versus’ cameras show Cam Neely’s reaction when Lemieux is on the ice is six.
