The Montreal Canadiens continued to circle the drain by dropping a 6-2 decision at Calgary last night, as Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette reports. The visit to Calgary was the opener of a six-game road trip for the Habs, who have lost eight of 10 overall and six straight on the road.
Montreal even held a closed-door players’ meeting before the game. And head coach Guy Carbonneau’s comments just keep getting more pointed by the minute.
MK: Let the “Carbonneau Watch” begin. The Habs bench boss is calling out everyone in uniform, his players are grasping at straws and Alex Kovalev has completely tuned things out. Sooner or later, GM Bob Gainey is going to have to put his friendship with Carbonneau aside and make a change — unless things turn around in a hurry.
Elsewhere around the division:
•The Buffalo Sabres might try center Derek Roy at left wing with Thomas Vanek out of action.
•Ottawa’s potential season turnaround has been hampered by an injury to Chris Neil.
•The Toronto Maple Leafs might consider trading forward Dominic Moore, according to Damien Cox in The Star.
MK: The Bruins would have to make an offer for the former Harvard standout. He almost fits in too well.
