It really has nothing to do with the Boston Bruins anymore, but it’s worth pointing out that after last night’s loss to Detroit, San Jose head coach Todd McLellan had some choice words for former Bruins captain Joe Thornton.
“Joe wasn’t as good as Joe needs to be,” McLellan said in the Mercury News. “He’ll probably be the first to tell you that and I’ll be the second. For us to be successful, our upper-end players have to bring it every night.”
Other than the obvious Thornton-Bruins tie-in, it’s worth noting that San Jose has recently had struggles similar to that of the Bruins — proving that no team can sustain the level of play that Boston and San Jose were playing at for the first few months over the entire course of an 82-game season.
