The St. Louis Blues, after a win over Phoenix last night, are among a seven-team race for playoff spots in the Western Conference that’s separated by just four points. So with less than a week before the March 4 trade deadline, the Blues might not be looking to sell off their veterans, most notably Keith Tkachuk, as Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com reports today.
Tkachuk is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent again this summer, and a number of teams — including the Boston Bruins — have reportedly had interest in acquiring his services. He is a left-handed shot with the ability to really change the look of a power play. But it’s worth noting he has scored just one goal in his last six games.
MK: The Blues winning is good news for the Bruins, as far as I’m concerned. I don’t know why the Bruins would want Tkachuk. I think he’d just slow down what this team wants to be — and that’s an aggressive team with speed AND size. Younger talents like Erik Cole and Milan Hejduk make a lot more sense.
