You can scratch another veteran “puck-moving” defense off the Boston Bruins’ shopping list, as the New Jersey Devils today struck a deal with Atlanta for Niclas Havelid, according to TSN.ca.
In exchange for 35-year-old Havelid’s services, the Devils will send the Thrashers rookie defenseman Anssi Salmela, who is 24 and has appeared in 17 games this season with New Jersey.
MK: Seems like a pretty low price to play for Havelid. In Bruins terms, the Devils’ compensation equates to say Providence (AHL) defenseman Adam McQuaid or Jeff Penner, someone of that ilk. Peter Chiarelli must have his eyes set on something a little more high-profile.
•Darren Dreger of TSN.ca is also reporting that Phoenix defenseman Derek Morris is still in a holding pattern and today skated on his own while awaiting his fate.
