Bruin of the Week

Bergeron

Bergeron

For quite some time after he suffered his second concussion in a little more than a year and then returned to active duty, Patrice Bergeron looked like a shadow of his pre-concussion self.

Then last month the Boston Bruins center started to find his legs. There was jump and physicality to his game again, and his forechecking was nearing peak performance for the first time in quite some time. The only thing that wasn’t happening for Bergeron was point-scoring.

But those days seem long gone as well. Despite a tough 1-3-0 week by the Bruins, Bergeron turned up the heat offensively and his efforts earned him my Bruin of the Week honor for the period ending today.

For the week, Bergeron posted 1-4-5 totals and a plus-2 rating. He was an outstanding plus-3 with two assists in the one victory the Bruins enjoyed. Bergeron has again become a force in all three zones and his new line mix with Mark Recchi added on his left to complement Chuck Kobasew on the right looks like a combination that could buoy the Bruins down the stretch.

There was only one other nominee this week, as Dennis Wideman registered two assists inĀ  the win over Chicago and was also a plus-4 in that game. He was plus-5 for the week.
