Two Bruins hit the ‘Big 3-0′

30_30_tequilaBOSTON — The Boston Bruins’ 2-1 win over the New York Islanders today at TD Banknorth Garden probably won’t get any airtime at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

But two Bruins players hit memorable milestones in the victory, as Phil Kessel scored his 30th goal and goaltender Tim Thomas earned his 30th win.

Kessel scored on a rebound of an Andrew Ference shot 3:16 into the game to add his career-high total for this season.

“It’s a nice milestone, I think,”  said Kessel, who skated on a line with Marc Savard and Blake Wheeler, after the game. “(I have) a lot of tribute to my teammates I think and my linemates I’ve been playing with this year. They find me quite a bit, so I’m fortunate to be playing with some good hockey players this year.”

For Thomas, this is the second season he has reached 30 wins.

“I was happy to get there,” he said. “Wins come a little slower now than they were at the beginning of the year, but it’s nice to hit another marker.”

Thomas made 21 saves to earn the win.
