The Boston Bruins lost their fifth straight road game today, as they fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins, 6-4, at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh.
Penguins forward Chris Kunitz recorded his second career hat trick scored two goals (he was originally credited with three until a change after the game) and winger Petr Sykora scored the game-winner at 9:29 of the third period.

Here are a few other notes:
•Five goals allowed by Tim Thomas, playing his third game in four days, matched a season-high. He also allowed five goals in a win over Toronto Dec. 18.
•The Kunitz hat trick was the first allowed by the Bruins this season. The last hat trick against Boston was by Buffalo’s Thomas Vanek last April 5.
•The Bruins’ penalty kill had been 12-for-12 against Pittsburgh until a Kunitz first-period man-advantage score. The Bruins killed six of eight power plays in the game. Eight times shorthanded set a season high for the Bruins.
•Winger Chuck Kobasew set a new career high with his 18th assist.
•Blake Wheeler snapped an 11-game goal-less drought with his second shorthanded score of the season.
