BOSTON — Boston Bruins defenseman Steve Montador, acquired from Anaheim March 4, has some unique perspective on the Los Angeles Kings, who are at TD Banknorth Garden for a matchup with the Bruins tonight.
As a member of the Anaheim Ducks, Montador squared off with this current crop of Kings six times this season — three wins, three losses. So he can give a more informed opinion on tonight’s foe than the other Bruins, who haven’t faced LA since last season.
“They have some young, fresh legs so it’s going to be an energetic game,” Montador said after the Bruins’ optional skate this morning. “They’ve had really solid stretches this year where they’ve played really well. And so on top of that they’ve sprinkled in some veteran players, so it’s going to be … it’s a fairly young nucleus of guys that are finding their way. They’re certainly making a name for themselves. We’ve got to be ready.”
The Kings are fading fast from the playoff picture — they sit 13th in the Western Conference with a 29-30-10 record. But one of their best stretches of the season came in early February, the last time LA trekked East. The Kings took down Ottawa, Washington, New Jersey and the New York Islanders in succession.
