At least the faceoffs were phenomenal

I just wanted to follow up on my faceoff report from yesterday. As you know, the Los Angeles Kings went into last night’s game fourth in the NHL in faceoff win percentage, while the Boston Bruins were 15th.

Even though the Bruins blew a 2-0 lead and fell, 3-2, in overtime to the Kings at TD Banknorth Garden, Boston dominated at the dots, 59 percent to 41.

Patrice Bergeron led the way with 11 wins in 15 tries (73 percent). Head-to-head, he dominated Anze Kopitar, 8-2. Stephane Yelle finished at 56 percent, while David Krejci — who has struggled this year — finished at 57 percent. Kings center Michal Handzus, a top-15 performer for the season, won just 27 percent of his draws, including all losing three out of three to Yelle. One of the league’s best, Jarret Stoll won eight out of 12 draws on the night for LA.

So it just goes to show you that sometimes, stats can be overrated.
