Now it’s getting really good in Montreal. Never mind the Canadiens’ goalie controversy. If Pat Hickey’s report in today’s Montreal Gazette comes true tonight against Toronto, there’ll really be some hell to play up north. It seems all signs point to head coach/general manager Bob Gainey scratching both defenseman Mike Komisarek and winger Andrei Kostitsyn.
“Sometimes you send a message,” Hickey quotes Gainey . “You see how they practice and how they respond to that. We have all our players available to us and we’ll decide tomorrow.”
MK: This is so juicy. The Habs are in eighth in the East by just one point and now they might sit their second-best D, who, by the way, is an unrestricted free agent this summer. This probably won’t be a selling point for him to stay with Montreal.
Elsewhere in the division:
•Good old, Scott Gordon. The New York Islanders coach called his two former players — Chris Campoli and Mike Comrie — who are now with Ottawa, “bad apples.” He sounds like a grandfather.
•In The Star, Damien Cox looks at the possibility of a Sedin Bros.-Brian Burke reunion in Toronto.
•Former Sabres center Daniel Briere punished Buffalo in a Philadelphia win.
