Norris talk turning to Green

The Norris Trophy.
It’s a bit disheartening to read Hall-of-Fame writer Jim Matheson’s mailbag today and notice how much of the Norris Trophy consideration he’s throwing the way of Washington’s Mike Green and his pick Duncan Keith of Chicago. Matheson’s analysis seems to focus mostly on stats, and he only gives one line of space to Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara.
MK: The fact is you can’t really quantify what Chara has meant to the Bruins on the back end this season. His play against the top offensive perfomers on other teams doesn’t really show up in the stats. But as far as his durability, his production on the power play and his plus/minus, he has to be the favorite right now. While the Norris is not an MVP, where would the Bruins be without Chara?
Although I think this has been Chara’s best year as a Bruin by far and that he should definetly be in the conversation. (In my opinion it was a joke he got Norris consideration last year) I am not so sure that I feel as if he is the hands on favorite to win the award. I look at Jay Boumester (SP?) as the top candidate right now. Take Chara off the Bruins and they are still very good. Take Jay Bo off the Panthers and they are probably last place. I also like for Dion Phaneauf to be in this conversation as well as Mike Green. It should be one of those 4.
Tim Thomas will win the vezina and Zdeno Chara will win the Norris. ’nuff said.
Anyone who watches a lot of hockey knows that Chara deserves the award this year. He is the most solid defensive force in the league. Ask the Ottawa Senators how good he is..
