The second annual “Cuts for a Cause” to benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation and MassGeneral Hospital for Children’s Pediatric Oncology is scheduled for Wednesday April 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Harp at 85 Causeway Street across from TD Banknorth Garden.
This fun fundraiser is one defenseman Aaron Ward brought to Boston last year, and he’s teaming up again with WBCN 104.1, the station Ward appears on every Wednesday morning. Fans will be able to bid on the opportunity to shave one of at least12 players’ heads in addition to Ward. The auction is taking place online at wbcn.com through April 7. Last year the event raised more than $25,000.
So far those who’ve committed to the event are Patrice Bergeron, Byron Bitz, Matt Hunwick, Phil Kessel, Chuck Kobasew, David Krejci, Milan Lucic, Mark Stuart, Tim Thomas, Blake Wheeler, Dennis Wideman and — to me, the biggest surprise — Michael Ryder. Ward said he’s still trying to coax a few more guys into taking the plunge.
Fans wishing to attend but not do the hair cutting can purchase tickets for $20 at wbcn.com. The admission price includes a chance to meet the players, food and a raffle ticket.
No word on what buzz-cutted beat writers can fetch on the open market.
