It seems like it’s a big day for big signings around the Northeast Division. In addition to the Boston Bruins’ reported signing of veteran goaltender Tim Thomas to a multi-year deal, according to Damien Cox of The Star the Toronto Maple Leafs have won the auction for Denver University free-agent star Tyler Bozak.
Cox reports that Bozak might officially sign with the Leafs as soon as this afternoon. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Bozak posted 5-8-13 totals in 19 games during an injury-riddled sophomre season at DU, but he’s been on scouts’ radars since his freshman season, when he led the Pioneers with 34 points (18 goals).
MK: Brian Burke is on the move. First Christian Hanson, now Bozak. Matt Gilroy could be next. And then we’ll know the Leafs could at least challenge for an NCAA title. But kidding aside, Burke’s on fire and that doesn’t bode well for the other teams in the division next season.
Elsewhere around the division:
•Bill Clement envisions a return to Montreal by Jacques Lemaire.
•The Canadiens have now taken nine out of a possible 10 points in their last five games and sit in seventh in the East.
•Forward Chris Neil would still like to stay with Ottawa.
•The Leafs are pretending their final six games matter.
