fenway-park-tapestryBOSTON — All  the hubub about the 2010 Winter Classic coming to Boston is a bit premature, at least according to Charlie Jacobs, Principal Boston Bruins & Delaware North Companies.

“Contrary to published reports, at this time we have not finalized plans for a Bruins game at Fenway Park on New Year’s Day,” Jacobs said in a statement today.”It is no secret that I would love to bring The Winter Classic to the City of Boston — and I have been working with the NHL to consider a number of venues in the area. We believe that we are close to accomplishing this. Bruins fans deserve to have an outdoor game, and we hope to deliver one to them in the near future.”

In a story on MLB.com written by Barry M. Bloom, NHL vice president of public relations Frank Brown would only say that Fenway Park is among the venues the league is looking at.

Whether it’s a done deal or not, it’s still fun to look ahead to what would be one of the greatest sports days in this city’s history. And the players can at least dream of it a little.

“It would be unreal. I go over there to watch a lot of ballgames, so it’d be special if they put the ice out there and have some fun. … It’d be a nice treat for us,” center Marc Savard said before tonight’s Bruins-Montreal game at TD Banknorth Garden.

“I think it’s a great event. You see all the coverage that it got last year — how many people watch it and how many people supported it, it was a great thing at Wrigley Field,” rookie Blake Wheeler said. “Fenway is obviously a great venue as well. We’d be very excited to have it there.”
