It looks like Mikko Lehtonen’s first taste of playoff hockey in North America, no surprise, will come with Providence (AHL) rather than Boston.
The Boston Bruins today assigned the Finnish winger back to their farm club after he made his NHL debut over the weekend in Buffalo. Lehtonen did not make it on the score sheet and fired just one shot on net against the Sabres. He was a healthy scratch on Long Island Sunday.
The P-Bruins open their first-round playoff series against Portland at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Wednesday night. The demotion of Lehtonen can also be taken as a sign the Bruins are confident P.J. Axelsson and/or Patrice Bergeron will be ready to return to the lineup in time for their playoff opener against Montreal Thursday.
