2009 Stanley Cup playoffs: Biron hoping he can be fantastic for Philly again

Starting tonight there are 16 men who probably have a little more of the focus, a little more of the spotlight, on their masked faces. Those guys are the goaltenders. Here in Boston, they’re wondering if Tim Thomas can win a playoff series. In Montreal, they’re wondering if Carey Price was overhyped of if he’s going to use this postseason to live up to the prognostications for his greatness.

Well, in Phiadelphia all eyes are on Martin Biron. He led the Flyers to the Eastern Conference finals last spring. After an up-and-down regular season, he’s again The Man for the Flyers, and he’s hoping he can find that level of play from ’08 again here in ’09. Inquirer sports columnist Phil Sheridan has the story.

MK: Biron will probably be fine. But again, recent history shows teams need two goaltenders two win the Cup. And that’s where the Flyers might have an edge because they can turn to Antero Niittymaki if they have to.
