Thornton
If you’re expecting Joe Thornton to panic now that his San Jose Sharks are down 2-0 in their Western Conference quarterfinal series with Anaheim, no dice.
“They’ll come, they’ll come,” Thornton said of his team’s elusive power-play goals in the game story by Mark Emmons in the Mercury-News.
The Sharks lost Game 2 last night, 3-2, and are now 0-for-12 in the series with the man-advantage. As Mark Purdy of the Mercury-News writes, the Ducks seem to have the perfect formula to get the done done in the West’s 1-8 series.
MK: The Sharks have had endured some bad flame-outs, but this would be the worst one. Last year they canned the coach in response to their disappointing postseason. This time GM Doug Wilson, by all accounts a great guy and excellent manager, would probably take the fall. And Thornton would take a vacation.
Elsewhere in the Western Conference:
•Even without Mats Sundin due to injury, Vancouver opened a 3-0 series lead on St. Louis.
•Columnist Bernie Miklasz wants the Blues to stop being fancy.
•Calgary’s Cory Sarich is having a hard time with his injury.
•Chicago forward Dustin Byfuglien has been a hitting machine against the Flames.
•They don’t want any octopi at Nationwide Arena for Game 3 between Detroit and Columbus.
