MONTREAL — The sweep is complete. And the drought is over.

For the first time since 1999, the Boston Bruins have won a playoff series, as they defeated the Montreal Canadiens, 4-1, tonight in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series between the two hated rivals. Boston wins the series in four straight games.

The Bruins will now meet a second-round opponent to be determined. The franchise is now 8-24 all-time in playoff series with the Habs.

Head coach Claude Julien gave his players tomorrow off as reward for their efforts in the series and “because it’s my birthday,” as the coach joked in French.
