Either Detroit Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios has undying blind loyalty to his teammates or all the hitting and banging in those 1,600 some-odd games over the last two decades has made him lost touch with reality.

In light of the announcement of the Norris Trophy finalists, Chelios had this to say about the chances of his teammates and six-time winner Nicklas Lidstrom:

“Yeah, Nick is winning again, for sure,” Chelios told The Sporting News.

Well, isn’t that matter-of-fact. Luckily for Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara and Washington Capitals blueliner Mike Green, Chelios doesn’t have a vote, and the votes are already in so the bruising defenseman can’t intimidate anyone into throwing their support to Lidstrom.

I’m sure that Chelios’ arguments for Lidstrom are sound, but they exist in a vacuum. When you compare Lidstrom’s efforts to Chara’s and Green’s, they just don’t match up this season. Sorry, Chelly.
