RALEIGH — So now we have our answer. The Boston Bruins have decided to go with Byron Bitz on their fourth line in place of Shawn Thornton, who is a healthy scratch. Thornton and Bitz split right winger duties during drills this morning here at RBC Center, where Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series with Carolina continues. I’m not sure what message this sends to the team, as head coach Claude Julien has decided to scratch one of his team’s hardest workers.

In addition to starting goaltender Tim Thomas, here are how the lines and D pairs looked in warm-ups:

Lucic-Savard-Kessel
Recchi-Bergeron-Kobasew
Wheeler-Krejci-Ryder
Axelsson-Yelle-Bitz

Chara-Ward
Montador-Wideman
Stuart-Hnidy

And on the Carolina side, with Cam Ward of course starting in net, here were the lines and D pairs for warm-ups:

Eaves-Brind’Amour-Conboy
Whitney-Staal-Cole
LaRose-Cullen-Walker
Samsonov-Jokinen-Ruutu

Gleason-Corvo
Pitkanen-Seidenberg
Babchuk-Wallin

Ryan Bayda is sick.
