WILMINGTON — For reasons that are beyond me, the Boston Bruins have decided to practice after some off-ice meetings here at Ristuccia Arena.
This could be the last Bruins practice of the season should they not stay alive in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series with Carolina tomorrow night.
There is no sign of Mark Recchi or Andrew Ference. Matt Hunwick got his on-ice workout in before the team with strength and conditioning coach John Whitesides. Blake Wheeler is dressed for Patrice Bergeron’s line Recchi’s place, while Byron Bitz is filling the left wing on David Krejci’s unit.
UPDATE: The Bruins went hard for about one hour. Now most are retreating to the dressing room. More coverage coming up.
UPDATE II: Recchi was “banged up” according to head coach Claude Julien, but the winger should be back for Game 5. Ference is doubtful.
