Carolina winger Scott Walker, whose overtime goal ended the Boston Bruins’  season Thursday, addressed his wife Julie’s cancer diagnosis yesterday after the club revealed the situation.

“Being a tough player and stuff like that, and people talk about me like that, this is one that it doesn’t matter how tough you are,” Walker said. “It’s hard to handle.”

Even Boston fans and media members, who have vilified Walker ever since his sucker punch of Aaron Ward in Game 5, can by sympathetic to Scott and Julie’s plight. Here’s hoping for a full recovery, which the club said is expected.
