The Toronto Maple Leafs today officially landed prized Swedish goaltender Jonas Gustavsson as a free agent, the club announced. The 24-year-old signed a one-year deal.

β€œI want to thank (Leafs general manager) Brian Burke and his staff for giving me the opportunity to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs,” said Gustavsson in a press release. β€œIt is truly an honor and privilege and I feel very fortunate to wear the blue and white sweater. Toronto is a great city, with tremendous fan support, and I am very excited about the future.”

In 42 games in the regular season in the Swedish Elite League, Gustavsson led the league with a 1.96 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. He then led Farjestads to the league championship by allowing just 14 goals in 13 playoff games.
