Auld

With Pascal Leclaire and Brian Elliott in place to carry the workload in the Ottawa net next season, the Senators yesterday traded former Boston Bruins netminder Alex Auld to Dallas for a sixth-round in 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

During a mostly drab season for the Sens last winter, Auld was a rare bright spot. In part-time duty, he put up a 16-18-7 record with a 2.47 goals-against average and .911 save percentage. Now he goes to Dallas, where he’ll get to do what he does best — fill in for a star netminder (Marty Turco) and provide leadership and a light-hearted mood to the dressing room.

Elsewhere in the division:

•The Saku Koivu era is officially through in Montreal now that the former captain has signed with Anaheim.

Buffalo’s development camp is a chance for Tim Kennedy and Nathan Gerbe (the former Boston College star) to impress some of the Sabres’ brass.

Christian Hanson is trying to impress at Toronto’s development camp.

•The Leafs are looking around for help with their penalty kill.
