kwiet_rob_0809headWILMINGTON, Mass. — Yesterday word was leaked that the Boston Bruins signed defenseman Rob Kwiet, an invitee to the Third Annual Development Camp,  to an entry-level contract with the club.

Today Bruins Director of Hockey Operations Don Sweeney acknowledged that the 20-year-old Kwiet has in fact been signed.

“Certainly, he had a very successful season,” said Sweeney about the 6-foot-1, 218-pound backliner. “And Windsor’s team winning it all, he played very well for them and was a big part of that. Our guys identified he’s a player that has some game savvy. He has some areas that we’re going to want him to work on over the course of this year, but he’s a guy that we want to invest time and energy into and to continue to develop and work with. So we’re happy to have his as part of our group.”

Last season with the Spitfires, Kwiet posted 12 goals and 55 assists in 66 games. He also put up 5-10-15 totals in 20 postseason games on the road to the Spits’ Memorial Cup championship.
