Defenseman Matt Hunwick has come a long way since his emergency splenectomy in the days after Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal playoff series with Montreal.
Health-wise, he’s 100 percent and “training just as hard if not harder than last summer.” And now, contract-wise, he’s a millionaire after signing a two-year deal worth $2.9 million as a restricted free agent yesterday.
“That was the No. 1 goal, I think. I told my agent from Day One that Boston’s where I wanted to be,” said Hunwick during a team-organized conference call to talk about the extension. “It’s a unique situation where players live downtown and in such a close proximity, it makes the team that much closer. And the direction the team’s pointed is outstanding. I think everyone’s looking to build off what we built last year.”
