The Boston Bruins today traded defenseman Aaron Ward to Carolina for winger Patrick Eaves and a draft pick. This is obviously a cap-clearing move, as the Bruins have placed Eaves on waivers for purpose of buying him out.
I will have more later.

when you update later can you explain the reasoning for picking up eaves just to buy him out? why not try to find a third team to deal with, or just trade ward for the pick? was chiarelli’s only bargaining position in this deal to pick up a guy he doesnt want and to further hinder his cap for the next four years during a recession?
what are chiarelli’s options now? does this help him sign kessel? if so, who becomes the 7th defenseman? is another trade in the works for that, and not that I want them traded, but maybe kobasew or sturm as the tradebait and cap/roster clearing asset?
or is this clearing room to sign a higher end defenseman to keep boychuk as the #7, in which case is kessel all but run out of town?
I smell a Kessel for Kaberle trade. We now need a top four defenseman.
