Northeast Division: Leafs swing deal for former Bruin Primeau

toronto_mapleleafs_logoWell, there won’t be as many Stuart brother battles as I had hoped now, but instead the Boston Bruins might get six looks at their former center, Wayne Primeau, after not facing him all that often during his time in Calgary.

The Toronto Maple Leafs yesterday acquired the former piece of Joe Thornton bounty from the Flames for a package that included Colin Stuart, the brother of Bruins defenseman Mark Stuart. Colin Stuart had been dealt earlier this summer from Atlanta to Toronto as part of the Pavel Kubina trade. Primeau, who’s returning closer to his hometown, adds some extra beef to the Leafs’ front line for the upcoming season and reunites with former San Jose head coach Ron Wilson.

Elsewhere in the division:

•Ottawa has a logjam on its back end, so it probably won’t re-sign unrestricted free agent Brendan Bell.
