Thomas
ESPN and the folks at Puck Prospectus have been using a new projection system called VUKOTA to analyze a few players on each team in the NHL.
Today they took a capsule look at the Boston Bruins, and picked Patrice Bergeron as a player that’s trending up (if he can stay healthy for the full season) and goaltender Tuukka Rask as a name to know. In the trending down category, some fans might be surprised to see Vezina Trophy-winning netminder Tim Thomas listed.
But on closer look, you’ll note that this system is only predicting Thomas to drop off a bit from his amazing 2008-09 season.
“Goalies often fall apart as quickly as they appear on the scene, so expect regression but not disaster. The projection still places Thomas as the best player on the Bruins roster in 2009-10,” the explanation states.
The Bruins are counting on Thomas’ regression not coming for a few years, so they’ll be glad to read the number project it that way.

[...] The Bruins Blog: Possible drop-off predicted for Thomas. Looks like the work of IC editor Richard and the rest of the guys over at Puck Prospectus is getting some regard. Unfortunately for Bruins fans it appears that Tim Thomas projections aren’t favourable. [...]
No worries! The D has his back and he has theirs.
I sure hope the thing about Patrice is spot on.
I used to be a Thomas doubter, but not anymore. You can’t deny what he has accomplished. He has always surprised, and when you look at the picture of him standing next to the Vezina, its tough to imagine anything but a bright future.
Just what I was thinking sooshii. Seems like it’s always, “well, NOW he’s going to regess.” And he just keeps getting better.
anyone here an espn insider, would like to read the rest of the piece
there’s never been a positive prognostication for Timmy. Why should now be any different?
