Goulet should be going camping

For those wondering about the fate of defenseman Alain Goulet, the Boston Bruins’ sixth-round pick (159th overall) in 2007, here’s what TheBruinsBlog.net has learned.

Goulet is scheduled under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement to become a free agent Aug. 16 because he was a collegiate player at Nebraska-Omaha before joining Gatineau of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League midway through last season.

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli today confirmed that Goulet will be invited to the club’s training camp, while Goulet’s agent Darren Ferris confirmed that there are ongoing negotiations between the team and the player and that Goulet plans to accept Boston’s invitation even if he does not sign prior to the open of camp.

Last season, Goulet played 32 games for Gatineau and posted 16-19-35 numbers in the regular season. In 10 playoff games, he registered 10 assists. More recently, he attended the Bruins’ development camp at the start of July.
