Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, who refuses to comment on ongoing contract talks and usually avoids talking about trade speculation, cannot be enjoying his counterparts’ continued efforts to reveal what’s going on with Phil Kessel to the media.
During the week it was Toronto GM Brian Burke who was spouting off about potential offer sheets or trades for Kessel. Today Nashville GM Dave Poile made it public that he’s been talking to Chiarelli about Kessel.
“We’ve talked concepts,” Poile told The Tennessean about his conversations with Chiarelli. “I’d be very interested to see if there might be something he would like from the Predators.”
At this rate, Chiarelli is going to take the best deal. But if he can do it without getting hosed, Chiarelli might want to teach the other GMs a lesson by dealing Kessel to the one or two that have kept quiet on the matter. That would set a tone for future trade talks with other teams about other players.
