WILMINGTON, Mass. — With the goaltending camp done, a bunch of returning and new Boston Bruins players are hitting the Ristuccia Arena ice along with some of the rookies left over from the earlier session.

Milan Lucic, Dennis Wideman, Andrew Ference, Byron Bitz, Steve Begin and Johnny Boychuk are skating around with three of the rookie goaltenders.

Hemsky

•Edmonton playmaker Ales Hemsky admits he was looking forward to setting up Dany Heatley had the disgruntled Ottawa star approved a trade to Alberta.

•Buffalo will start the season without center Adam Mair because of hip surgery.

•Senators defenseman Jason Smith is going to retire.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — This morning is Day Two of Boston Bruins goaltending coach Bob Essensa’s goaltender camp with Tim Thomas, Tuukka Rask, Kevin Regan, Matt Dalton and Adam Courchaine on the Ristuccia Arena ice.

Also skating right now are Marco Sturm, David Krejci, Matt Marquardt, Andrew Bodnarchuk and Brad Marchand.

Boston Bruins legend Phil Esposito is in Toronto for a couple reunions with his 1972 Team Canada teammates. Chris Young of The Star caught up with him and, of course, Espo didn’t mince words when talking on a few topics including the Hamilton/Jim Balsillie situation. (more…)

Rask

The Boston Bruins top prospect for a few years now, goaltender Tuukka Rask is expected to finally make good on that potential this season. The Bruins allowed Manny Fernandez to leave via free agency and only signed second-tier veteran Dany Sabourin as an insurance policy with the intention that Rask will become a full-time NHLer in 2009-10. Only a few Boston Bruins players are expected to skate today in Wilmington, Mass., so I’m going to stretch the summer one day longer. But that doesn’t mean that the Bruins aren’t going to be active. In fact, a bunch of them will be partaking in golf of one sort or another today.
