BOSTON — The good news for ticket holders for the Bruins’ matinee with Edmonton at TD Garden is that with the Bruins alternating wins and losses from the start of the season, today is a ‘win day.’

Thursday night’s shootout win over Detroit, however, showed that the Oilers are a resilient bunch with a surprising amount of firepower. For a complete preview, check out the Boston Bruins Examiner.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — The 2-1 loss to New Jersey last night still fresh in their mouths, the Bruins took the ice this morning for a practice at Ristuccia Arena.

The full squad was on the ice, skating in the same lines from the previous couple games.

Boston might want to do more than just practice breakouts and shooting. The Bruins might also want to look into some immune-system bolstering, as the Edmonton Oilers will land in the Hub battling the swine flu, which started with Ladislav Smid and he might have passed it on to some of his teammates. Get your black and gold surgical masks ready.

BOSTON — In a goaltender’s duel, New Jersey journeyman Yann Danis topped Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas and the Bruins tonight at TD Garden, 2-1.

BOSTON — The Bruins are, in fact, going to face New Jersey backup goaltender Yann Danis tonight and not Martin Brodeur.

Last season against Boston while with the New York Islanders, Danis allowed eight goals in three games — all losses. (more…)

BOSTON — Finally, the Bruins held a morning skate in preparation for an actual game today at TD Garden, as the New Jersey Devils will be the opponent tonight.

The majority of the team took the ice for an optional skate, including all seven defensemen and both goaltenders.

UPDATE: Tim Thomas was the first Bruins goalie off the ice. It appears Yann Danis will start for New Jersey.

After losing last night at home to Buffalo, the New Jersey Devils are 1-4-0 at the Prudential Center. In contrast, they arrive for tonight’s game with the Bruins at TD Garden with a 5-0-0 road record. That has some of the Devils players baffled.

“Thankfully we’re playing well on the road,” Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner told the Bergen Record. (more…)

BOSTON — Time off is only beneficial for so long.

Tonight the Bruins finally get back into action for the first time since Saturday. The New Jersey Devils come to town, and they’re almost as shorthanded as the Bruins. Boston, without Marc Savard and Milan Lucic, won’t get any sympathy from the Devils, who come to town without Patrik Elias, Paul Martin and Jay Pandolfo.

The rash of recent concussion-causing hits started to build up my anger again, as it does every season at this point of the year. But with the way the league and the players have reacted, I’ve decided I’m not going to be offended anymore by hits like the one Mike Richards threw at David Booth.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — The Bruins are scheduled to actually play a game tomorrow at TD Garden, against New Jersey, but today is just a third straight day of practice at Ristuccia Arena.

For the second straight day, the Bruins have the full squad on the ice.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Allegedly only the New England Patriots are on a bye this week, but it feels like the Bruins are one as well.

Boston took the ice this morning at Ristuccia Arena for a second straight day of practice on their way toward finally hitting the ice for a game again Thursday at TD Garden against New Jersey. Every active body was on the ice, including Daniel Paille, who took off yesterday to get his life in order one week after he was traded by Buffalo.

The Boston Bruins won’t play a game until Thursday, but it’s fairly certain their opponent that night will be down a couple of key bodies.

New Jersey learned today that both defenseman Paul Martin and forward Jay Pandolfo will be out four to six weeks — Martin with an arm injury and Pandolfo with a dislocated shoulder. (more…)

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Less than 48 hours removed from their remarkable comeback in Ottawa, the Bruins were back to work at Ristuccia Arena practicing in preparation for Thursday night’s visit to Boston by New Jersey.

Everyone on the active roster was on the ice except for forward Daniel Paille. Something tells me the Bruins gave him the day off to get his life in order because he reported directly to the TD Garden after the trade and then the Bruins left for their road trip last Wednesday night. UPDATE: I was dead on. Paille went to Buffalo to retrieve his belongings.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — I got to Ristuccia Arena half an hour before practice and Zdeno Chara going through a pre-practice workout on the ice with assistant coach Doug Houda. There are two traffic cones and a wooden board between the blue line and the goal and Chara is trying to shoot between and over them, while also working on one-timers and passes off the wall.

There’s no complacency in the captain this morning. Oh, and Mark Stuart joined Chara with about 15 minutes until practice. UPDATE: It is now 30 minutes after practice ended (12:25 p.m.) and Chara is still on the ice, this time working with Matt Hunwick. So Chara has been on the ice at least 2 1/2 hours (he was on when I got here). He has shown no signs of leaving the ice.
