Gustavsson
Two games in and the Toronto Maple Leafs already have a goaltender controversy? Well, at least that’s what the Toronto media, bored in the aftermath of the conclusion of the Phil Kessel saga, are hoping. After Vesa Toskala was lit up Saturday night, rookie Jonas Gustavsson effectively mopped up. And that might lead to a clamoring for “The Monster” to get more playing time.
So does head coach Ron Wilson have a difficult decision right now? Not really. If he does anything but go right back to his veteran Toskala and stick to the plan of easing in Gustavsson slowly, he’d be nuts. Wilson’s never been a coach that lets the media dictate his maneuvers, so that doesn’t figure to change here.
Elsewhere in the division:
•With Andrei Markov and Ryan O’Byrne hurt, Montreal is going to count on Yannick Weber to save the day.
•After just one loss Ottawa is already shuffling its lines.
