toronto_mapleleafs_logoWhat’s one way to get over the Boston Bruins’ slow start? Divert your eyes away from Boston and take a long, hard look at the struggles of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Last night, the Leafs dropped a 7-2 decision to the New York Rangers to fall to 0-4-1 on the season.

The Leafs are getting horrible goaltending and playing poorly in front of their netminders, and today they shook up their roster by recalling Tyler Bozak from the AHL in time for tonight’s game against Colorado.

Remember, when you relish the Leafs’ losses, you’re not just enjoying the downfall of one of the Bruins’ division rivals. You’re also rooting for a higher draft pick and a better overal return from the Phil Kessel trade. Could that first-round pick end up in the top three, top five, top 10? Anything is possible with the way the Leafs have started.

Elsewhere around the division:

•Buffalo’s Lindy Ruff has enjoyed success against his Hockey Canada colleagues and wants to keep it going against Detroit.

•Signing Mathieu Dandenault didn’t appeal to Montreal when the Canadiens needed a replacement for Andrei Markov.
