BOSTON — In the aftermath of the news that center Marc Savard is going to miss four to six weeks with a broken foot, the Boston Bruins took their morning skate at TD Garden in preparation for their evening game with Nashville.

The skate was optional, so while newcomers Trent Whitfield, Brad Marchand, Vladimir Sobotka and Daniel Paille, plus all seven defensemen, were on the ice, a few players skipped the session. Winger Shawn Thornton, who missed the last two days of practice due to “maintenance,” skated on his own before his teammates, but he is very doubtful to face the Preds.
