Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas might have a lot to celebrate New Year’s Day. Not only will his club be facing the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway Park, but USA Hockey will announce the 23 players chosen for the Team USA squad that will head to Vancouver in February for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

The announcement will be made during NBC’s broadcast of the Winter Classic.

Speaking of the Winter Classic, Kevin Allen of USA Today yesterday printed a great chat with Don Renzulli, the NHL’s executive vice president of events about preparations for the big game. The NHL will start building the rink at Fenway Dec. 10.
