Bruin of the Week

The Bruins went just 1-1-1 and were shutout over the past week, so that makes it difficult to pick a Bruin of the Week.

Despite his 0-1-1 record, however, I am going to go with goaltender Tim Thomas, who produced two solid efforts against Detroit and Montreal with little offensive support.

Against the Red Wings, he made 24 saves on 26 shots, while his teammates failed to solve Chris Osgood. Then in the big rivalry game with the Habs Thursday, he stopped 25 of 26 shots in regular and overtime, including a miraculous stick save on Brian Gionta. In the shootout, he only allowed one goal on three attempts, but the Bruins weren’t able to get one past Carey Price.

Other contenders this week were Mark Recchi (PP goal vs. Buffalo, even rating) and Patrice Bergeron (1-1-2, even rating).
