Boston Globe writer Kevin Paul Dupont reported yesterday that although there was an Internet report that Marc Savard was on the verge of signing a contract extension with the Bruins, a source said the “signing is not imminent.”
Dupont also reported that the deal could be a front-loaded contract worth around $32 million over seven years. Savard is in the last year of his original four-year deal (which was worth $20 million) and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Although he traveled with the team to Atlanta, Savard is not expected to play against the Thrashers. He has missed four weeks with a broken foot.
