The resurgent play this season of center Patrice Bergeron should be a benefit to more teams than just the Bruins. If Hockey Canada is serious about constructing a balanced team that can play well over 200 feet for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver this February, Bergeron should be a candidate for a roster spot.
Bergeron has contributed to Team Canada success in the past, but you’d never know it from reading the national media’s projections for the team. But as I wrote in my ESPNBoston.com column, Bergeron would provide the necessary mix of offensive and defensive prowess, along with faceoff success and an ability to mesh with superstar Sidney Crosby.
Hockey Canada will announce its roster for the 2010 Winter Olympics Dec. 31.
