Of Ference & Savard

BOSTON — Bruins coach Claude Julien provided an update on injured players Marc Savard and Andrew Ference this morning after his team skated at TD Garden in preparation for their evening game with Florida.

Savard, out since March 7 with a Grade 2 concussion, is still in a holding pattern as far as physical activity.

“Obviously, those symptoms have to clear first and he hasn’t cleared those,” Julien said about Savard. “That’s why we said, is he going to be back this year? Regular season, definitely no. And then after that it’ll depend. And the thing is, those type of things could change day to day. If he starts getting better in a couple days, now we’re able to answer questions and say ‘well, he’s on the right track.’ But he hasn’t stepped over that hurdle yet.”

As for Ference, who tried playing through his hernia/groin issues but hasn’t suited up for a game since March 25, Julien said the organization decided to shut his down for this week and then re-assess next week.

“He’ll get back to being able to play again at some point,” said the coach. “We really don’t know, nobody knows, how long it’s going to take. It’s a hernia and it depends on how quickly the swelling and all that stuff gets worked out.”

Julien admitted that once Ference is available again there’s no telling how long he’d be able to stay healthy enough to play.
