… an Eastern Conference semifinal showdown with the Flyers.

The Bruins can say “merci” to the Montreal Canadiens, who shocked the Washington Capitals tonight, 2-1, in Game 7 to eliminate the top seed and advance to the second round against Pittsburgh. The means seventh-seeded Philadelphia comes to Boston for Game 1 and 2 Saturday and Monday.

All you need to know about the Flyers right now is that two of their best two-way forwards, Simon Gagne and Jeff Carter, are out with broken feet. And one of their top penalty-killlers, Ian Laperriere is out with a concussion. You mix in Marc Savard for the Bruins, and you’ve got to like Boston’s chances.

The Bruins were 2-1-1 vs. the Flyers, including their dramatic Winter Classic victory.
